Further Reading

In my search of the web I will put links to documents and articles which can be downloaded.  Many unfortunately will be large documents and probably heavy reading.  We will however have to read many of them if we are to fully make our case.

The HS2 Initial Preference Scheme Documentation  January 2013 A sustainability document - Shows the effort taken to minimise the impact of the preferred route.  Hence it is unlikely that the route can be changed appreciably.  Mitigating circumstances can tweak it a bit BUT phase 1 experience indicates that they do NOT move far from this line.  Section 6.5 gives no mention of adverse impact with respect to dwellings in our region.  Section 6.6 only references Great Haywood as having an adverse noise problem.  As far as the document is concerned we appear to not be affected by the development at all.  That is what we are up against.

2011 Parliament research paper  - which outlines some of the history for HS2 and the pro's and Cons.

I am still trying to locate the DfT internal report which criticised the case for HS2 internally.  This was uncovered by the Sunday Telegraph in the summer of 2012.  If anyone has a copy or a reference to it please email me.  This should be available under the Freedom of Information Act so we may have to ask the DfT for a copy.

High speed rail: Investing in Britains Future - Government publication justifying the HS2 project

High Speed Alternatives Study - Government publication - A report by Atkins examining the case for conventional rail alternatives to HS2.

Better Than HS2 summary and full report - Good alternative information. The full report is damming of DfT and HS2 Ltd when they under took the modeling comparison with WCML.  They did not consider any improvements in the WCML such as longer trains, improved signalling, better trains and rolling stock and improved line construction bypassing Stafford.  All these which are relatively inexpensive compared with HS2 would make significantly reduce the advantages of HS2.
